In Queensland, we take safety seriously – that’s why the Standard 11 Mining Induction is critical to help you get a job in the mines.

Safety standards are a big thing, especially in the mining industry where many situations can become life and death very quickly.
The Standard 11 course was designed by the Department of Natural Resources and Mines, as well as mining industry employers, and follows the Queensland Mines Inspectorate’s directive.
The two-day training course is an interactive training program that offers a comprehensive variety of skills that are fundamentally important to the mining industry such as hazard identification, risk control, isolation and tagging, communication, manual handling, use and control of hazardous substances.
Why is the Standard 11 Mining Induction Important?
There are a number of reasons why the Standard 11 Mining Induction is an essential course to complete but the two main reasons are safety and employability.

1. Safety compliance
Queensland has a goal to have the world’s safest mining practices. In order to achieve this, the Queensland Department of Natural Resources and Mines introduced the Standard 11 and aimed to raise awareness of health and safety in our workplaces. The Standard 11 is a thorough training course that covers 6 competencies. All these competencies give participants greater knowledge and understanding of safety.

  • RIIERR205D – Apply initial response first aid
  • RIIERR302D – Respond to local emergencies and incidents
  • RIIGOV201D – Comply with site work processes/procedures
  • RIIRIS201D – Conduct local risk control
  • RIIWHS201D – Work safely and follow WHS policies and procedures
  • RIICOM201D – Communicate in the workplace

2. Getting employment
Standard 11 is a great course to have under your belt if you want to get a job in the mines. Skills that are fundamentally important to the mining industry such as hazard identification, risk control, isolation and tagging, communication, manual handling, use and control of hazardous substances are an integral part of the Standard 11 course. Workshop activities will provide participants with the opportunity to develop those skills to this standard. When employers see a resume with Standard 11 on it, they have confidence that the applicant is prepared and equipped to work in the mines.
When preparing to get employment Standard 11 training is a must-have, not only will you be more confident and prepared for potential hazards, but you will increase your odds of getting a job.
